Kona Oceanfront Gallery announces Best of the West Art Show winners

Kona Oceanfront Gallery hosted the sixth annual Best of the West Art Show on June 26 and 27.

The event, which featured 35-plus Big Island artists showing off their talent, attracted more than 400 guests. The Best of the West exhibition and art contest offered an opportunity for well-known, and up-and-coming Big Island artists to participate in a weeklong exhibition.

During the show, the public voted on their favorite pieces. The top six vote-getters were Alex Gupton, Brad “Tiki Shark” Parker, Penny Gupton, Josh Lambus, Clint Sloan, and Ernest Young.

Hasper reopens gallery

After a successful 18-month tour of art shows on the mainland, Jon E. Hasper has reopened his gallery/shop showcasing his custom fountains. A show is planned from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight at the gallery in Kona.

Hasper, who has been building fountains that feature lighting for about 10 years, says his pieces are designed to last, and are easy to maintain. The fountains are made of natural rock, copper and other organic components.

Hasper’s gallery is located at The Brewery Block, Bay 8, near the Kona Brewing Co.

Kohala Coast Fine Art plans artist reception

Kohala Coast Fine Art will host an artist reception for Big Island artist Alex Gupton tonight.

The reception begins at 5 p.m. and and end at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be offered.

Kohala Coast Fine Art gallery is located at Kings’ Shops in Waikoloa.

Giggles &Grinds with Augie T.

Augie T. takes the stage July 17 for Giggles &Grinds, a dinner show at the Kona Elks Lodge. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; dinner served at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the show only are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets for dinner and the show are $30. They can be purchased at Kona Wine Market, Soundwave Music, Kiernan Music and the Kona Elks Lodge. Special rates are being offered to lodge members; call 329-2616 for more information.

Kona RocktoberFest planned

The date has been set for the 2015 Kona Rocktoberfest, an all-day music festival featuring comedy, contests and more in Kailua-Kona.

The 21-and-over festival will be held Oct. 24 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Early-bird tickets are $15. Ticket prices will increase to $25.

The festival kicks off with the chicken dance followed by performances by Maka, The Alohahas, Green Machine, The Darkroom and Leche de Tigre. Various contests and events are also planned during the day.
